AERO 212 Minimize
  AERO 212 BASIC INSTRUMENT HELICOPTER

 

Description
 
The student will be introduced to attitude instrument flight and obtain the practical experience necessary to control and accurately maneuver the helicopter solely by reference to the flight instruments. In addition, the student will be introduced to emergency procedures pertaining to basic attitude flying.
 
Course Objective
 
The student will display an understanding of basic attitude instrument flight and emergency procedures, and the function and use of navigational aids and receiving equipment in the IFR environment. The student will demonstrate proficiency in basic attitude instrument flight. Altitude will be +/- 100’ of assigned altitude, airspeed will be +/- 10 KIAS of desired airspeed, and heading will be within 10°.
 
Eligibility for enrollment
  • A person must hold at least a 3rd class medical certificate prior to enrolling in the flight portion of the Private Pilot Certification Course.
  • Must have a current and valid Private Pilot License – Rotorcraft Helicopter
  • Must be at-least 17 years of age at end of course
  • Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language. 
  • Person must weigh less than 205 pounds prior to enrolling in the flight portion of the Private Pilot Certification Course
 
Aeronautical Knowledge Training
13 hours of ground training in the following subjects:
           
1.      Aeromedical factors as applied to instrument flight
2.      Attitude instrument flying technique
3.      Applicable subjects of the “Aeronautical Information Manual” and the appropriate FAA advisory circulars
4.      Aircraft instrumentation and navigation systems introduction.
5.      Radio communications procedures
6.      Basic instrument approach procedures
 
 
 
 
Flight Training
 
20 Hours Total
13 Dual (Instruction Given)
7   (Instructor preflight briefing and post flight critique and evaluation)
 
Flight training must include the following areas of operation:
 
1.      Preflight preparation
2.      Preflight procedures
3.      Flight by reference to the instruments
4.      Navigation Systems
5.      Emergency procedures
6.      Postflight procedures
 
Completion Standard
 
The student MUST demonstrate through written tests, practical tests, and appropriate records, that he/she meets the knowledge, skill, and experience requirements necessary to meet course objectives.
