AERO 211 – BASIC COMMERCIAL PILOT (5.0 Units)
The Basic commercial pilot training course is designed to provide a foundation of knowledge and experience required for pilots to safely and effectively conduct commercial operations. Special emphasis is given to aeronautical decision making and situational training. The student will gain confidence and experience with cross-country flight planning and operation. The lecture portion of this course is approved for distance education format.
 
 
All training is conducted in a rotorcraft – helicopter.

Eligibility for enrollment: 
  • Must have a current and valid Private Pilot License – Rotorcraft Helicopter
  • Attained at-least 40 hours as pilot in command of an aircraft
  • Rotorcraft skills and knowledge must be at-least to private pilot standards at time of enrollment.
  • A person must hold at least a 3rd class medical certificate prior to enrolling in the flight portion of the Commercial Pilot Certification Course.
  • Must be at-least 18 years of age.
  • Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language. 
  • Person must weigh less than 205 pounds prior to enrolling in the flight portion of the Private Pilot Certification Course
 
Aeronautical Knowledge Training
 
1.      Aeronautical charts for VFR navigation using Pilotage, dead reckoning, and navigations systems
2.      Safe and efficient operation of aircraft, including collision avoidance, and recognition and avoidance of wake turbulence
3.      Effects of density altitude on takeoff and climb performance
4.      Weight and balance computations
5.      Principles of aerodynamics, powerplants, and aircraft systems
6.      Aeronautical decision making and judgment
         a special emphasis on Kern model of airmanship:
             i.      Skill, knowledge proficiency
             ii.     Knowledge of team, environment, aircraft, self, risk
             iii.     Situational awareness & judgement
7.      Preflight action that includes: How to obtain information on runway lengths at airports of intended use, data on takeoff and landing distances, weather reports and forecasts, and fuel requirements and how to plan for alternates if the planned flight cannot be completed or delays are encountered

3.      Air Traffic Control clearances and procedures
4.      Navigation Systems
5.      Navigation Technique and practice
6.      Emergency procedures
7.      Postflight procedures
 
Completion Standard
 
The student MUST demonstrate through written tests, practical tests, and appropriate records, that he/she meets the knowledge, skill, and experience requirements necessary to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate. Each student must satisfactorily complete an oral and practical exam conducted by the FAA (Or Designated Representative).
