Through the college program not only are your financing options increased but you can receive better financing terms, loan lengths and limits. All students are eligible for the grants and scholarship opportunity afforded every other college student.
At COS Aviation we have several programs that are available to help offset the cost of education.
In general the cost of education for COS Aviation program has to be supplemented with some sort of private funding, whether private lending institutes, family or friends, the cost of training will exceed the government available funding through the FAFSA. Below are a list of options that will assist you in financing your new career. If you have any questions please contact COS Aviation.
Parents PLUS Loan
The Parents PLUS loan will pay for the cost of flight training, less other financial aid. Parents may take the loan to help their son or daughter achieve their flight training goals. If you are a dependent adult under 25, then your parents may likely qualify for the PLUS loan which will fund your cost of education. To be eligible for a Direct PLUS Loan for Parents:
•The parent borrower must be the student's biological or adoptive parent. In some cases, the student's stepparent may be eligible.
•The student must be a dependent student who is enrolled at least half-time at a school that participates in the Direct Loan Programsm. Generally, a student is considered dependent if he or she is under 24 years of age, has no dependents, and is not married, a veteran, a graduate or professional degree student, or a ward of the court.
•The parent borrower must not have an adverse credit history (a credit check will be done). If the parent does not pass the credit check, the parent may still receive a loan if someone (such as a relative or friend who is able to pass the credit check) agrees to endorse the loan. The endorser promises to repay the loan if the parent fails to do so. The parent may also still receive a loan if he or she can demonstrate extenuating circumstances.
•The student and parent must be U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens, must not be in default on any federal education loans or owe an overpayment on a federal education grant, and must meet other general eligibility requirements for the federal student aid programs. Click here for more information on the PLUS Loan for Parents.
Chase Bank Select Loan
The Chase select loan is another option that will finance a student up to the cost of training, minus any financial aid available to the student. This is a private loan extended only to approved colleges, so you should have strong credit and usually a co-borrower with strong credit. The Chase Bank loan is a commercial loan that has reasonably high credit standards to qualify. Contact COS Aviation for more details about the chase select loan. Veterans Benefits
If you are a veteran you may be eligible for the GI Bill. The Post 9/11 GI Bill can be used for up to 100% of your flight training fees if you have served at-least 36 months of active duty after 9/11/2001. Unlike the Montgomery GI Bill, which only paid up to 60% of flight training fees, the Post 9/11 GI Bill will pay 100% of your flight training fees. You can use the Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits calculator to determine your eligibility by clicking here.
FAFSA
The FAFSA is the application most colleges use to determine eligibility for federal, state, and college-sponsored financial aid, including grants, educational loans, and work-study programs. All students that file a FAFSA that meet the eligibility requirements can receive some sort of funding. Usually, this accounts for no more than $2,500 dollars per semester through the subsidized Stafford Loan, which won't cover the costs of your flight training fees. Either subsidizing through Chase Bank or Parents Plus is usually necessary. Click the FAFSA image to apply!
