Description
The basic commercial pilot course is designed to provide a foundation of knowledge and experience required for pilots to safely and effectively conduct commercial operations. Special emphasis is given to aeronautical decision making and situational. The student will gain confidence and experience with cross-country flight planning and conduct. A commercial pilot is authorized by the FAA to fly for compensation or hire.
This course, taken in conjunction with Advanced Commercial will satisfy all training requirements leading to issuance of the Commercial Pilot License – by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Course Objective
This course provides training and review of those maneuvers required for private pilot certification with emphasis placed on student performance of these maneuvers within commercial pilot proficiency standards. The student will increase proficiency in cross-country and night flying operations. The course will prepare the student to complete the FAA Commercial Pilot Rotorcraft- SEL Exam with a minimum passing score of 80%.
Teaching Outcome:
- Student will demonstrate aeronautical knowledge appropriate to commercial cross country flight with special emphasis on cross country flight planning, weather, weather services, navigation systems and emergency operations.
- Student will learn to successfully navigate the aircraft using pilotage, dead reckoning and GPS navigation systems.
Student Learning Outcome:
- Given a written exam on basic flight maneuvers and cross country flight, the student will demonstrate aeronautical knowledge with a passing score of 80% or higher.
- Student will be given several hypothetical cross country flight scenario and will be required to make appropriate decisions relative to scenario flight. Student must verbally explain decision making, reasoning and demonstrate knowledge of commercial pilot operations.
- Given in the airplane, the student will successfully perform a cross country flight in an aircraft to within commercial pilot standards. Student will be expected to display mastery of aircraft navigational systems by piloting the aircraft on the course assigned by the examiner using pilotage, dead reckoning and GPS navigational system.
Eligibility for enrollment:
- Must have a current and valid Private Pilot License – SEL
- Attained at-least 40 hours as pilot in command of an aircraft
- Airplane skills and knowledge must be at-least to private pilot standards at time of enrollment.
- A person must hold at least a 3rd class medical certificate prior to enrolling in the flight portion of the Commercial Pilot Certification Course.
- Must be at-least 18 years of age.
- Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language.

Flight training must include the following areas of operation:
1. Preflight preparation
2. Preflight procedures
3. Air Traffic Control clearances and procedures
4. Navigation Systems
5. Navigation Technique and practice
6. Emergency procedures
7. Postflight procedures
Completion Standard
The student MUST demonstrate through written tests, practical tests, and appropriate records, that he/she meets the knowledge, skill, and experience requirements necessary to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate. Each student must satisfactorily complete an oral and practical exam conducted by the FAA (Or Designated Representative).
